I am pleased for the people and businesses in Cumbria that the threat of the damaging proposal on street car parking charges has now been removed. It should never have come to this however; the consultation on the budget proposals last year indicated that there was a majority of people opposed to this move.

Cllr Alan Pemberton (Conservative, Hawcoat) has championed the apirational cause for a crossing over Morecambe Bay since first being elected to Barrow Borough Council in 2009, but became more heavily involved in campaigning around 2013.
Recently, residents of Kirkby, Askam, Ireleth and surrounding areas lost the X7 bus service. This was a vital life line, connecting locals with Barrow and other surrounding rural areas.
