Roy Worthington was first elected to represent Hawcoat on Cumbria County Council in 2017. He then served as a councillor on Barrow Borough Council from 2019, before local government reform saw him elected to Westmorland and Furness Council in 2022, representing the new ward of Hawcoat and Newbarns.
A dedicated campaigner for the people of Furness, Roy has worked on several key projects, including the successful campaign for a new footpath along the Old Monks Trail in his ward. This initiative not only delivered a much-needed footpath but also resulted in a refurbished path for Dalton residents, with the Hags route also being refurbished, benefitting the wider community.
One of Roy's notable achievements was his involvement in securing a Dickens Medal for Tommy the Pigeon, a war hero from Dalton in Furness. Roy's efforts ensured that this piece of history was preserved and recognised for future generations at Barrow's Dock Museum.
In addition to his campaigning, Roy serves as a member of both the Licensing Committee and the Regulatory Committee at the council. He lives locally with his partner, Emma, and their family.
