Cllr Roy Worthington, Conservative Councillor for Hawcoat and Newbarns, had the honour of presenting a cheque to Barrow Cricket Club alongside Cllr Tony Callister (Chair, Locality Board for Furness).
The club, which has a rich history dating back to 1857 and has been based at its current ground since 1927, received a funding award of £4,750 from the Furness Locality Board.
The funding will support the club’s plans to develop new female changing facilities and an umpire changing room, enhancing inclusivity and improving amenities for players and officials.
Reflecting on the visit, Cllr Worthington praised the club’s dedicated volunteers, saying:
“It was truly humbling to meet the passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain and improve the club. Their commitment to the ground and its future is remarkable, and I salute them all.”
This investment highlights the ongoing commitment to supporting grassroots sports in the local community, ensuring that Barrow Cricket Club continues to thrive for generations to come.
