Matt Brereton has represented High Furness in council since 2017, serving across Cumbria County Council, South Lakeland District Council, and now Westmorland and Furness Council, following its establishment in May 2022.
A passionate sports fan, Matt plays cricket for Kirkby - in - Furness Cricket Club and follows England's cricket and rugby teams, as well as Liverpool FC, whenever possible. Matt is also a Member of the Lake District National Park Authority, and he is the Vice Chair of the Windermere Lake Administration Committee.
In his council role, Matt is a member of the Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Hosted Services and serves as the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group. A dedicated and diligent campaigner, Matt has worked closely with Simon Fell, when he was MP for Barrow and Furness, and the local community to ensure the A595 Grizebeck improvement works were carried out, demonstrating his commitment to the area's infrastructure.
Matt is also a strong voice for High Furness residents and is working tirelessly to improve waste and recycling services for local communities. He is often out and about in the High Furness area, engaging with residents and business owners, always happy to listen to their concerns and offer support.
Matt lives in Foxfield with his family, where he continues to be a dedicated advocate for the people of High Furness.
