Helen Irving is a veteran councillor and a passionate, born and bred Ulverstonian, serving as a strong voice for her community. She currently represents West Ward on Ulverston Town Council since first being elected in 2008, and has a wealth of experience, having also served on South Lakeland District since 2012, where she served in the Shadow Cabinet.
In May 2022, following Local Government Reform, Helen was elected to Westmorland and Furness Council, continuing her dedicated service to the people of Ulverston, now at Unitary Council level, alongside her Town Council work.
Helen lives in Ulverston with her husband, Thomas, and enjoys spending time with their children and grandchildren, who often help her with rearing livestock and support her numerous campaigns in the town.
A tireless advocate for Ulverston, Helen is particularly active in championing local causes. She has been a key member of the GSK task force, working closely with local leaders to ensure a positive and lasting legacy for Ulverston once GSK moves on from the town. Helen's commitment to her community continues to make a significant impact on the future of Ulverston.
Helen is a member of Cumbria Police, Crime, and Fire Panel, the Licensing Committee, the Regulatory Committee, and the South Lakeland Planning Committee on Westmorland and Furness Council. For Ulverston Town Council, Helen sits on the following committees:
